First blog: Is Streamtech Internet a good ISP? (+ my previous experiences with Streamtech)
Hi, welcome to the first blog. So, I know why you are here. Is Streamtech Internet (Philippines) a good service provider? My honest opinion to that is YES. Why? Well, Streamtech Internet is kinda reliable compare to others. Hold on, before you say something, please hear me out. Just a disclaimer, I'm not a professional and all of these are only based on my experiences. Why did I say Streamtech Internet is "kinda" reliable? Well, unlike to my previous internet providers (Digitel and PLDT), Streamtech is somehow reliable compare to those two. I can't say if PLDT improved their internet connection, but people say that it is still the same. As per Digitel, it is not existing any more. The last time I checked, Digitel was bought by Manny Pangilinan who is the owner of PLDT. I don't want to compare other service provider such as Converge, Globe, etc. because I only had 2 internet providers before Streamtech, so I can't really compare them to Streamtech.
Streamtech is a Fiber internet, and I don't want to explain what is a Fiber internet, please just google it. Maybe the reason why I didn't have a good experience with Digitel and PLDT because back then, my internet was a broadband and Fiber was not that popular in the Philippines. I was supposed to apply for Converge, but they took a LOT of time to install my internet. Also, they asked you to pay for it first before they install your internet, which I find kinda unfair. But, I heard that they do "install-first-before-paying" nowadays, although I'm not sure, so please don't count me on it.
Streamtech has its flaws, like other service providers do. Well, we are living in the Philippines. As we say, we don't have a reliable internet here, which I find it somehow true. Why? Well, you can get a "reliable" internet if you pay for it, like if you pay thousands and thousands of pesos just to have an internet. Nowadays, internet is already a necessity, but I can't still feel it here in the Philippines. Internet here in the Philippines is still a privilege; only people who can afford it can connect. If you don't have money to pay for it monthly, you need to endure of refilling (load) your SIM card (prepaid or in the US, they call it a pay-as-you-go) for minutes to hours to days of having a mobile data just to connect to internet.
Let's get on to my Streamtech's experiences for being a subscriber for over a year. I've mentioned on my welcome blog that the reason why I decided to create a blog for my experiences is because I want to share it, so people can decide if they want to apply for an internet on Streamtech. And lastly, is because currently Streamtech had an "emergency maintenance" and I had to wait for 6+ hours before the connection resumed. To be honest, this is not the first time I've experienced this with Streamtech - I've experienced the worst. Earlier this year (2021), I can say I've experienced the worst connection issue with Streamtech. Around 7 pm, the connection was intermittent, like there was a connection but every website or app (that requires internet connection) is loading indefinitely. Yes, it will load at some point, but it took awhile. I tried to connect to a VPN, and I was hopeful it will work, but no, it is still the same. I slept having an intermittent connection, and I thought I would woke up with a bunch of notifications on my phone, and finally have a connection. Well, I was wrong. I woke up, and the connection is still intermittent. I tried to call their customer service around 9 am, but I wasn't able to connect to an agent due to heavy volume of calls (well duh, what do I expect? No calls from this worst service?). Around 10 am, the connection was back, and I thought, "what's the point of calling them if the issue has been resolved already?". So, just imagine, no seamless internet connection for 15 hours? YES, let that sink in, 15 hours without a reliable internet connection? What if you are working from home, and you had a shift between those upsetting hours? What will you do? What will your boss do to you? What will the company do to you? You might get fired just because you can't connect to internet during your shift, which it wasn't your fault, it's the ISP's fault. Of course, I didn't receive any discount or even an INCONVENIENCE compensation on my bill at the end of the month. This is why internet sucks in the Philippines. Welcome to the Philippines.
I've mentioned on my welcome blog that I am keeping a notepad of my experiences on Streamtech, and I named it "putang ina mo planet.txt". I know you might be wondering why Planet, and not Streamtech? I thought we are talking about Streamtech? Well, Planet used to be the name of the internet and cable provider here on my place, but I don't know if it was bought by Manny Pangilinan, or they bought Streamtech service to provide internet to customers. Honestly, I don't know. But, now they are using Streamtech as their name. However, people still refer to them as Planet.
Here is the content of my notepad: (note: I only started documenting since 9 June 2021)
PUTANG INA MO PLANET

2:10 am to 2:19 am 9 Jun

6:40 am to 7:07 am 19 Sep (possible due to 1 sec brownout since there is no outage reported in fb)
3:50 am to 4:01 am 09 October 2021
11:46 am to 12:10 pm 16 October 2021
10:30 am to 4:58 pm 18 October 2021 (received a text from ST around 11 am)
Well, I guess that's it for now. I will update this blog if I feel like it, or if there is a none to intermittent connection experience again from Streamtech. I hope you enjoy reading this blog, or you got an idea on what it feels like to have Streamtech as your ISP. To be honest, their service is kinda tolerable (note: kinda). But, if you don't have any ISP in your area, or you have no choice, Streamtech is a good ISP.
